on page 16-17, she says that princesses make girls to only think about their beauty, and that when they get older to be high school or college students, it affects their self-esteem and makes them less capable of insisting that their sex partners use condoms.
she even sayds that it is not only girls who go through poverty that experience, but all girls.

Sadly, this is true. Disney movies are portraying girls to focus on their beauty and it does affect their self-esteem as they get older. I do not believe young children have a cognitive understanding about the negative behavior Disney has influenced in their films. In my opinion, I do not believe all of the blame should be put on Disney. They created movies for children to enjoy during their childhood. It is the media that is constantly corrupting these children and our society.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I see it all time where young girls come into my job only 10 years old and they have more makeup on their face then I do & the fact the parents accept it. Very sad.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, Disney, Barbie and other forms of media that girls look up to, show different values than those that should be taught. If you look at almost any "girl" game board, the object of the game is to get a cute guy to date. In addition to dating games, girls are encouraged to bake (easy bake oven, kitchen sets, tea sets, cake pop maker, ice cream maker, cupcake maker...) and to clean (vacuums, fake irons) and to love shopping and fashion. If you look at alot of Barbie, Polly Pocket and other girl's doll sets, you will notice that there will always be a shopping scene.
